Great comment Pedro, and I agree with you Plaid.
That he did the recording is just further proof of his ridiculous all-around ability. His feel and ideas will take the music to a level an ordinary metal drummer could never reach.
According to MD, Vinnie turned 48 in February.
Sounds pretty much in the pocket to me, and theres more stuff going on than some may think. And like most of Vinnies's stuff its like a good film... you have to check it more than once to appreciate it.

You guys made some great points about it not being too extraordinary for some of the really aggressive metal that's been out...& then the great points about his feel & tightness...Plaid used the comment "tighter thn a mosquito's..."; i used to say, "...than a gnat's-ats" LOL

I don't mean to rub anyone the wrong way, but i feel this is Vinnie backing down the jets to fit the style [& don't worry, guys, I haven't missed the point [img]wink.gif[/img] ] ...he has good DB chops, but we all know who the real guns are in DB...but conceptually, as a drummer period, you cannot out-concept Vinnie, rhythmically; no, not evn Virg, because Virg is "of the Vinnieness" [in his own way] first ;c) :cp
Randy is 100% correct about Ken; i was into him back in the HOL & David Chastain "melodic metal speed guitar" daze... a very good [& underrated] drummer...

I popped on the Megadeth tune and I am very psyched to see what Mustaine has in store.
I was a fan of Nick Menza's playing on Rust in Peace. There were some pretty tricky changes on that disc and he played them with balls and power.
Vinnie can play with balls and power and I wonder if this will bring Mustaine back to the hyperfast convolutions he used to write.
But if it's a disc full of those dumb straight ahead Megadeth songs, then it's a waste to bring Vinnie on board.
After listening to Kick The Chair a million times (I've always been a huge Megadeth fan), I can tell that there's a LOT more going on drumming-wise in the song that we think. It sounds to me like they turned the toms down big-time in the mix during some parts. Like during the guitar solo at the end (after about 3:40 towards the end) the I can hear some small tom rolls and hits that are turned down, but clearly there if you listen closely. I think he even matches the double-bass with toms at the beginning but they are low in the mix. It's hard to tell. I hope this isn't the final mix, but I think it is. Either way, his timing is amazingly perfect, almost too-perfect- it's stiff. However, in straight ahead metal like this, that's what it calls for. I'm sure Vinnie kicks ass on the entire album.
